During the High Middle Ages, how did pilgrimages for the Crusades affect the economy?

During the High Middle Ages, the pilgrimages for the crusades were a great opportunity for the economy of different lands as, apart from the bloody wars that were going on, a lot of new trade had been developed because people started to travel with goods as the soldieres provided protection.
